Dr. Om Patel is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in joint replacement of the hip and knee. He obtained his fellowship training at the prestigious Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. There he learned the most advanced techniques in modern hip and knee reconstruction from many of the world’s experts.
Dr. Patel’s clinical interests include both non-operative and operative treatment of lower extremity joint pain ranging from traumatic injuries to degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis. He believes in the power of non-operative measures such as injections and therapy. When surgery becomes necessary, his operative solutions include minimally invasive Direct Anterior hip replacement, manual and robotic total knee replacement, and unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement. In addition to primary joint replacement, he also performs simple and complex joint revision cases and periprosthetic fracture care.
Dr. Patel was born and raised in Kansas before attending The University of Texas at Austin where he earned his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering with Honors and a minor in Biology. He then attended medical school at The University of Texas Health in San Antonio and completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at The University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita during which Dr. Patel received the Charles D. Pence Teaching Award for his commitment to teaching.
He has published a number of papers within the field of orthopedics and presented his research at conferences across the country. Dr. Patel strives to continue learning by keeping up with the most current literature and techniques. He stays active in professional organizations such as American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS).
In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, woodworking, playing tennis, and traveling.
Dr. Patel is currently accepting new patients at both the Frisco and Coppell locations of Star Orthopedics.
