Jason Petrasic, MD

Jason Petrasic, MD, FAAPMR, is a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) specialist who specializes in musculoskeletal medicine and the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries. Dr. Petrasic serves the communities of Coppell and Frisco, Texas, at Star Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Petrasic has been in practice in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2016, until joining Star Orthopedics and Sports Medicine from UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he was an assistant professor and clinical faculty member for over three years. Dr. Petrasic takes pride in building relationships with his patients to help them fight through and overcome their injuries.

Dr. Petrasic completed his medical school at the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio (now the Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio). He then completed his PM&R residency training at UT Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, serving as chief resident during his final year of residency, and was voted senior resident of the year by his faculty and resident peers.

During his training, Dr. Petrasic additionally served as an ancillary sports medicine physician for multiple Rock ‘n Roll half marathon races, WOGA gymnastics invitational meets, and a local triathlon.

Upon completion of his residency training, he was invited to join the faculty at UTSW. He developed and implemented the first musculoskeletal ultrasound curriculum for the UTSW PM&R department, which he directed during his time there. He also served as a lead attending in the PM&R musculoskeletal clinic at Parkland Hospital in Dallas for two years and was awarded the PM&R department’s faculty attending of the year in 2019.

Dr. Petrasic’s clinical interests include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy for arthritis and cartilage injuries, electrodiagnostics (EMG), and non-surgical management of common orthopedic injuries. He has been published in both textbook print and peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Petrasic has served as a volunteer team physician for a local high school in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, UT Dallas women’s basketball, wheelchair motocross world championships, and also co-founded/co-directed the UTSW Adapted Sports Coalition, which is committed to increasing the visibility of the area adapted sports population and help them gain greater access to sports and physical activities.

Dr. Petrasic is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and maintains memberships with the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Texas Medical Association.
